After a candidate interviews with your program, send a note from the program director to the applicants thanking them for including your program in their selection process. The applicants are making decisions that will affect the next several years of their lives and have only a few hours in which to assess your program. Even highly competitive specialties that attract large numbers of applicants wish to attract the best residents possible to their program. Therefore, a warm, gracious welcome, followed up with a note of thanks, is appreciated by candidates and will be remembered.

This week’s tip comes from The Residency Coordinator’s Handbook, by Dianna Otterstad, BA, published by HCPro, Inc.
