The first ever Clinical Documentation Improvement Week is being held this week, Sept. 18–24. This is a national week of recognition for clinical documentation improvement (CDI) specialists. Just like nurses, coders, and other professions have their own day or week of recognition, now the same can be said for the CDI profession. Clinical Documentation Improvement is a relatively new role in healthcare and one that is increasingly critical for accurate code assignment, reimbursement, quality scores, patient safety initiatives, and much more.

CDI teams in hospitals across the country will use the week to increase awareness among their colleagues and the public about the profession and provide broader education on the importance of the quality connection of documentation of care.

ACDIS, the Association for Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists is proud to honor these individuals. There are a number of tools available to help facilities educate their staff about the CDI role including:
ACDIS members will also receive a sponsored industry overview survey as well as a daily sponsored Q&A e-mails throughout the week.
